Nankou National Laboratory Base

The Nankou project repurposes three decommissioned factory compounds as a research campus. Its new masterplan is anchored in the retained industrial layout, mature landscape, workshops, and production routes. Each building was assessed individually, with different degrees of conservation, adaptive reuse, or replacement matched to its condition and intended function. Expansive former workshops and warehouses were remodeled as laboratories, while distinctive industrial spaces became halls, galleries, and meeting areas. Removing boundaries between the former compounds connects gardens, courtyards, and pedestrian routes, using the scale and structural capacity of the industrial buildings to support contemporary research.
