Meihuafang Senior Service Center

Located in central Jiashan, a historic Jiangnan water town, the Meihuafang Senior Service Center adjoins the tomb of the fourteenth-century painter Wu Zhen. To accommodate a comprehensive program of services for older residents on a constrained site, the building is divided into connected volumes. Stepped roofs, grey brick, dark metal facades, and courtyards relate the new architecture to the surrounding townscape. Multifunctional spaces support residents' daily needs. By reinterpreting local architectural traditions, the project strengthens the distinctive character of its setting.
