Liqiao

Located outside Fuqing's former walled city, Liqiao contained fragmented historic fabric in need of substantial physical and functional regeneration. Original street layouts, waterways, bridges, and towers were retained as the framework for new streets, plazas, and courtyards across the rolling terrain. The design employs local brick-and-stone craftsmanship, modest building dimensions, and inherited street patterns. Public spaces integrate heritage with commercial and civic programs, forming a coherent contemporary quarter rooted in regional architectural traditions.
