Dongguanjie

Dongguanjie retains Dalian's characteristic early modern urban fabric and architectural heritage from several periods. A targeted renovation strategy was developed for each building. Key historic structures were preserved for adaptive reuse, while infill buildings mend gaps in the street pattern. New construction responds to the existing context while remaining distinguishable. Reused materials, permeable paving, and energy-efficient technologies reduce the environmental impact of the intervention. Renewed alleys, courtyards, and plazas reconnect the historic quarter with the surrounding city.
