Chengde Mountain Resort Buffer Zone Park

Located in the transition between the Chengde Mountain Resort World Heritage site and the city, the buffer-zone park, realized as Yingshuiba Park, creates a coherent landscape corridor connecting the resort with the Wulie River and surrounding mountain views. Incompatible structures were removed, and new parking was placed below ground and partially concealed. The site was reorganized as a sequence of lawns, groves, and public spaces. Local purple sandstone, laid using traditional techniques, forms the paving, while deciduous trees frame the heritage walls and surrounding topography. By mediating between heritage and contemporary development, the park strengthens pedestrian connections among the resort, riverfront, and city.
